It hurts to live, and it hurts to work. The wheezing, lack of strength and trouble breathing are signs that something is seriously wrong with you. Do not hesitate to seek medical treatment. Not only is your health in jeopardy, but so is your income-earning ability.

Your situation makes you wonder whether your ailment may qualify you for Social Security disability (SSD) benefits. If it is a serious enough situation, you more than likely will qualify. Recipients of SSD benefits suffer from a number of different ailments.

Respiratory, Circulatory And Sensory Disorders

Here is an incomplete list of some of the more common physical and mental ailments that may qualify you for SSD benefits:

  • Back pain, joint pain such as bursitis and tendonitis along with arthritis.
  • Respiratory disorders such as emphysema, asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchitis.
  • Anxiety disorders, including panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • Mental disorders such as personality disorder, intellectual disabilities, depression and conditions from the autism spectrum.
  • Circulatory system maladies such as high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, cardiovascular disease, heart transplant and angina.
  • Sensory ailments such as visual impairments and hearing loss.
  • Autoimmune disorders that may include scleroderma, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes.
  • Neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, epilepsy Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
  • Blood-related ailments such as lupus, HIV/AIDS, leukemia and lymphoma.
  • Neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy.
  • Certain forms of cancer that often are malignant and aggressive.

You may or may not get better, but you must remain hopeful. As long as you qualify for SSD benefits, you and your family will not face such a financial burden because of your inability to work.
